Our principles

Built by an old hotelier, for the people who actually run hospitality.

We've spent four decades in this industry. We watched booking platforms grow rich on the back of our friends' hard work. The Lobby is our quiet answer.

I

No platform between you and the property.

You pay the property directly, like any direct guest. The Lobby never holds your money — no card stored on our side, no payment processor cut, no chargebacks routed through us. The reservations team will arrange payment with you per their standard procedure. The relationship is yours, with the hotel — exactly as it was always meant to be.

II

Hotels set the rate. Hotels set the terms.

Each property defines its own member rate and its own cancellation policy — flexible, semi-flexible, or strict. We never override what a hotel and its head office have decided.

III

The handshake, not the hard sell.

Each property defines its own welcome — the small courtesies hoteliers have always extended to one another. Things that cost the hotel little or nothing, but mean a great deal between professionals.

IV

Family travel is not a privilege. It's normal.

A member travelling with their spouse, children or partner is simply travelling. The verified member is on-site; the family are with them. Hotels have always welcomed this, and so do we.

V

No public reviews. No star battles.

If a member has a concern after a stay, it's shared privately with the property's GM through The Lobby. Quiet, peer-to-peer, the way our industry has always preferred. No public scoring, no leaderboards, no anxiety.

VI

Verified, every single one of us.

The Lobby is reserved for those working as active employees in the daily operations of hospitality. Every application is reviewed carefully, by hand, and we welcome:

  • Hotel, resort and villa staff — any role, from front desk to General Manager
  • Restaurant and bar staff at hotel-owned F&B operations
  • Cruise line crew and officers, hospitality side
  • Airline cabin crew and pilots
  • Hospitality educators at recognised schools
  • Independent concierges and butlers serving private estates and yachts

Verified through LinkedIn, employer email, or by the personal vouch of an existing Partner-tier member. The Lobby will analyse and verify every application — and if your profile fits, we'll come back to you.

VII

Privacy belongs to the member.

Some members want their stays visible to peers. Others want privacy. The choice is always the member's.

VIII

Earned, never bought.

Membership is free, and so is every level within it. Members start as Member; with completed stays and time become Resident; and the most active become Partner. There is no annual fee, no paid upgrade. Tier is shown to the booking property, never to other members. We are all peers in the lobby.

IX

The rate is for The Lobby, and only The Lobby.

When a property joins us, they commit that the published member rate is exclusive to The Lobby. Every booking carries a confirmation code, and confirmations flow only through us — protecting every honest hotel and member on the platform.

X

Hospitality is a craft. We help our peers refine it.

We believe the people who deliver hospitality become better at it when they themselves know what excellent hospitality feels like. The Lobby exists, in part, to make that possible — quietly, respectfully, at rates the people who serve can actually afford. Our peers' hotels become our universities.

XI

Fair on both sides, or not at all.

A platform is only as good as both sides feel about it. If a hotelier ever feels The Lobby is asking more of them than it gives, we want to hear about it — and we will fix it.

“Why be a member of The Lobby?”

Because someone finally built it the way we would have.
